Every hotel review should compare its subject with the obvious alternative. For Crown Towers, the obvious alternatives are next door: Crown Metropol and Crown Promenade, on the same Burswood site, sharing the same car parks, restaurants, theatre and casino. This entry is not a review of those two — I have not researched them to the same depth — but it sets out what Crown publishes and where the differences lie.
Ages and origins
Wikipedia, a secondary source, gives the history. Crown Metropol opened on 4 October 1987 as the Burswood Island Hotel and became Crown Metropol on 27 June 2012. Crown Promenade opened on 1 August 2005 as the Holiday Inn Burswood and was rebranded on 20 June 2012. Crown Towers opened in December 2016 — by some distance the youngest of the three.
Room types on Crown's menu
| Hotel | Room categories listed |
|---|---|
| Crown Towers | Deluxe King, Deluxe Twin, Premier King, Premier Twin, Studio, Executive (Club) Suite, Premier Club View Suite, Deluxe Villa |
| Crown Metropol | Luxe King, Luxe Twin, Luxe View King, Luxe View Twin, Luxe King Spa Room, One Bedroom Penthouse, Two Bedroom Penthouse, The Loft |
| Crown Promenade | Superior King, Superior Twin, Superior King Balcony Room, Spa Studio, Suite |
I have not printed sizes for the Metropol and Promenade rooms because I did not check each of their pages for this entry. Wikipedia lists 405 rooms at Crown Metropol and 291 at Crown Promenade; Crown's 2016 release put Crown Towers at 500.
What is shared
- Valet parking: Crown's Towers FAQ quotes one valet price — $80 — "for our three hotels".
- The free public car parks, the shuttle to Burswood station and the taxi rank at the Riverside entrance.
- Restaurants and bars across the complex, including Nobu, which is in Crown Metropol, and Rockpool Bar & Grill.
- Crown Theatre and the walk to Optus Stadium.
- Epicurean's weekend breakfast, which Crown reserves for "Crown Hotels guests" — guests of any of the three.
What is not
The Crystal Club on level 15 belongs to Crown Towers, and the poolside furniture hire in the Towers facilities menu is limited to registered Crown Towers guests and Crown Spa Club members. Crown Spa is inside the tower. Crown Metropol has its own pool — Nobu's lunch offer this spring came with a "Crown Metropol Pool Pass". Crown Metropol's lobby, with what Crown calls its 12-storey glass atrium, is under renovation, with a new Canopy Bar due in 2027; Crown says works run on weekdays between 10am and 4pm.
For accessibility, Crown's accessible-facilities document lists 11 accessible rooms at Crown Towers and 8 at Crown Metropol.
So which one?
If the trip is about the room and the pool, Crown Towers is the one, for the reasons in my verdict: the size of the base rooms, the bathrooms, the multi-tiered pool and the club lounge. If the trip is about a show or a match and the room is just for sleeping, the older hotels share the location, the car parks and the restaurants, and are worth comparing on price. A good test: if you would not use the Towers pool or spend daylight in the room, you are paying for things you will not use.
